Instructions for authors

Language

Articles and other contributions are accepted in Danish, Swedish, Norwegian and English. All articles have an abstract in English, 100–150 words, regardless of the language the article is written in.

Length of contributions

Preferred length of manuscripts for articles is 5000 words, with a maximum limit of 8000 words. This includes tables and figures after judgment by the editors. Descriptive contributions should have a length of 1000-2000 words.

Document format

Please submit manuscripts electronically in Word format with margins 2.5 and line spacing 1.5. Keep figures and tables where they belong in the text. Usually two levels of headlines are used, in addition to the article’s title.
Please avoid using footnotes.
Long quotations should be given with incidents, but without other special formatting.

The first page of the manuscript should contain title of the article, the author(s) name(s) and an author presentation written in third person (50-100 words) with e-mail address and institution. The next page should have title of the article but not authors’ names. (The first page is removed when the manuscript is sent to review.)

References

References are placed at the end of the manuscript, following APA style. In the following we provide some common examples.

In running text references are given as (Alexandersson & Fransson, 1978), alternatively: Alexandersson and Fransson (1978)…

Note that “&” is used within the parenthesis, while “and” is used when the reference is given in running text.

Several references are given as
(Driver, 1983; Hodson, 1996, 1998; Millar & Driver, 1987).

Note the use of comma and semicolon, and that references are given alphabetically, not chronologically.

If there are up to five authors in one reference all of them should be listed at the first occurrence in the text. In subsequent references to the same work, “et al.” is used. In the list of references all authors are listed if there are up to six authors; “et. al” is used if there are more than six.

References are listed at the end of the manuscript as follows:

Journal article:
Gunstone, R., & White, R. (1981). Understanding of gravity. Science Education, 65(3), 291-299.
Note that Volume is in italic, while Issue is not.

Book:
Driver, R., Leach, J., Millar, R., & Scott, P. (1996). Young people’s images of science. Buckingham: Open University Press.

Chapter in a book:
Snow, R. E., & Yalow, E. (1982). Education and intelligence. In R. J. Sternberg (Ed.), Handbook of intelligence (pp. 493-585). Cambridge: Cambridge University Press.

When there are more than one editor ”Ed.” is changed to ”Eds.”
Note that initials for given name are placed before surname for editors.
In running text reference is given to the chapter (Snow & Yalow, 1982), not to the book where it is published.

Manuscript submission

We use an online submission system. Authors register and submit manuscripts on www.journals.uio.no/index.php/nordina/user/register. In case of problems when register or submitting papers, please contact the editors.

Submission of a manuscript for publication in NorDiNa involves that the article should not be previously published, and that the author is obliged not to publish it elsewhere as long as it is in a review process in NorDiNa.

All articles are reviewed by two independent referees and the editors, who communicate the reviews to authors with requirements for revision.

When an article is accepted for publication in NorDiNa, the journal has the right to publish it on the Internet.
